Engcobo LM hosts a Waste Management Campaign

On the 5th November 2019, Engcobo local Municipality in association with Chris Hani District Municipality hosted a Waste Management and Environmental awareness program which involved informative presentations from Department of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs and the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries to combat waste that is produced by human activity in our communities and towns, for example, litter and air pollution which is caused by gases in our atmosphere. This campaign was aimed at informing our community members around waste management and to reduce adverse effects of waste on human health, in our communities, environment and ozone layer. Waste management can protect the environment which will often turn out to have positive economic benefits due to more efficient use of products and more means of reducing costs to the country.Through that process, recycling is a component of modern waste reduction and is a key strategy of reducing and reusing waste or litter. Recycling is a process of converting waste materials into new materials and objects. It is an alternative to ”conventional ” waste disposal that can save material and help lower greenhouse gas emissions.Recycling can prevent the waste of potentially useful materials and reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, thereby reducing : energy usage, air pollution, and water pollution.
